RIVER, DO IT WITH CONFIDENCE.
DO IT WITH HENKELS & McCOY.
Using the
500,000 lb. Big Rig, Henkels & McCoy recently completed a successful
5,200 ft. horizontal
drill to a depth of 100 feet in an environmentally
sensitive area at Newark Bay. With crews working 24 hour
shifts throughout
the project, the job was completed on time and on budget in 45 days.

"The 5,200-feet Newark Bay
crossing was part of Columbia Transmission Communication's 270-mile
communications project from Washington, D.C. to New York City.
This particular bore was one of the most difficult and sensitive
on the entire project. Its close proximity to another fiber optic
cable and a very high voltage electric cable, plus the length
and depth, made it quite a challenge. There were also environmental
concerns to be cognizant of, and per the New Jersey Department
of Environmental Protection, the construction was performed under
the observation of a New Jersey P.E. The project was completed
with minimal problems and those that did occur were resolved
quickly. There were absolutely no environmental write-ups for
noncompliance. During our preconstruction meeting, we stressed
teamwork. The bore was completed better than any of us could
have anticipated, and I believe the resulting success was in
large part due to Henkels & McCoy's commitment to the team
effort."
